Spanish 1
Spanish 1 students focus on mastering the grammar and vocabulary necessary to establish a firm foundation on which to build. They explore the history, geography and culture of the Spanish-speaking countries through artists, writers and current events that bring classroom learning to life. Students learn to listen carefully and practice what they learn by engaging in dialogues and writing short essays.
Topics include: Spanish vocabulary and grammar to begin understanding the Spanish language and develop confidence in speaking, reading and writing in Spanish; the basic building blocks of the language; and the culture in Spanish-speaking countries.
Prerequisite: Students must have a solid understanding of English and/or Latin grammar.
Homework Habits: Students typically spend 3-4 hours a week practicing vocabulary, completing grammar exercises and writing a weekly discussion board post.
