Kathy Sweet
In her classes, Kathy and her students enjoy hard texts, lots of laughs, deep discussions, the Gospel, and maybe a few funny videos. They endeavor to learn, discover and grapple with God’s truth together. Often, when they are enthralled with their discussion, trying to identify where it all points to Jesus, they lose track of time and wonder how class can possibly already be over!
Kathy is a Southern California girl who tried to be an East Coaster but has recently landed in Austin, Texas. After graduating from California State Polytechnic University at Pomona with a Bachelor of Arts in English education, she moved to New York City to complete her master’s in literature from Hunter College on the Upper Eastside. After a brief stint in Florida, where she taught high school English, she and her husband landed back in NYC, where her husband was on staff at a church in Brooklyn. All three of their children were born there while she taught for a high school prep program for at-risk teens. After her husband accepted a call to a church in Northern California, she worked as a substitute teacher at her children’s elementary school. Now in Austin, Texas, she is excited to teach at Wilson Hill Academy.
Kathy enjoys hiking, reading, and watching her younger two kids play soccer while her oldest does all sorts of things at Texas A&M. She and her family have visited twelve national parks and enjoy listening to audiobooks on their various road trips. She has been married for 22 years and hopes to hike in the Swiss Alps for their 25th.
My students at Wilson Hill are the funniest, brightest, and most engaged students I have ever had in my teaching career.
