Shawna Barr
Shawna knows firsthand how homeschooling young children can be both satisfying and challenging. Providing children with a solid foundation in reading is an essential tool for learning. Shawna has spent the last ten years teaching homeschooled students how to read and training parents and teachers how to teach reading.
Shawna studied bilingual education as an undergraduate and holds an elementary teaching credential. After becoming a homeschooling mother, she took a deep dive into classical teaching methodology and received training through the Classical Latin Schools Association.
In 2018, her combined training and experience led her to start a hybrid brick-and-mortar school in her small town to prepare grammar-level students with the academic skills they need to thrive in the upper grades at Wilson Hill.
Shawna lives in Mount Shasta, CA, which is so far north that it is almost in Oregon. She is a mom of four adult children, one twelve-year-old, a son-in-law, and a daughter-in law. Recently, Shawna and her husband, Jacob, welcomed two grandbabies. When she is not snuggling babies, she loves growing wild, crazy patches of wildflowers in her former vegetable garden, cooking meals for a crowd, tending the beasts on her small farm, and drinking good coffee.
