Algebra 2
Algebra 2 builds on the foundation of Algebra 1 and provides students deeper insight into and a greater appreciation for mathematical models. Students develop and practice higher-level abstract thinking and reasoning skills that help with data interpretation, proportions, measurements and equations. Most colleges and universities still require Algebra 2 (college algebra) for admission, and it is particularly important for those planning to study science, technology or engineering in college. Research shows that students who successfully complete Algebra 2 are more likely to graduate from college.
Topics include: real and complex number systems; solving equations and inequalities; functions, including linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic and rational; analytic geometry; statistics and probability; and matrices and determinants.
Prerequisites: Algebra 1; Geometry (previously or concurrently)
Homework Habits: Students typically spend 3-4 hours a week preparing algebra homework.
Suggested Grade Level: 10-12
