Math 5
Engaging young students in meaningful discussions of mathematics is an essential component of their math education. Math 5 combines this type of student engagement along with stimulating content to inspire true wonder and love of the subject. Students learn to solve challenging math problems using exceptional “visual approach” strategies based on the Singapore Method that bolster confidence in their own abilities and give rise to a greater appreciation of mathematics.
Topics include: decimal and fraction work with all four operations; multiplication and division with two-digit multipliers and divisors; percents, ratios and geometry. Real-world problems are included with each concept so students develop strong mathematical reasoning skills and number sense, building a strong foundation for future math courses.
If you would like assistance to determine proper placement, you may use the Singapore Math “Primary Mathematics” placement tests.
Homework Habits: Students typically spend 1-2 hours a week working on math homework. When there is a test, students will also be expected to submit corrections.
Suggested Grade Level: 5 (best suited for students ages 9–11)
