Story of History: Ancients
The Story of History series covers the flow of history from Bible times through the 20th century, providing students a backdrop against which they can better engage the Great Conversation. The Story of HIstory series is intended to give students a sense of what it was like to live then and there. Grammar School students get to know the heroes, villains and key events of the period using both biographies and selected works of historical fiction as well as nonfiction narrative histories (where available).
Ancient history comes to life as students in this course explore geographical settings and learn about ancient cultures and customs. From Creation to the fall of Rome, students watch God’s plan unfold as He moves through nations and empires. By providing an overview of ancient history, this class prepares students for subsequent Bible and history courses through the development of attentive listening, close reading, thoughtful interaction and oral narration. Students create their own historical timeline, practice cartography skills, complete map projects, present on favorite historical characters and more.
Topics include: historical, geographical and cultural knowledge of ancient civilizations, including Sumer, Egypt, Israel, Greece and Rome.
