AP Calculus AB
AP Calculus inspires students to appreciate the power and beauty of math. In this college-level introductory course, students learn differential and integral calculus to prepare for the AP® Calculus AB exam. They work with functions represented in a variety of ways—graphically, numerically, analytically and verbally—and learn to identify the connections among these representations. Students enjoy regular opportunities to communicate mathematically using verbal and written explanations. Formal AP® approval has been received.
Topics include: functions and graphs, limits, continuity, derivatives and differential ability, applications of the derivative, curve sketching, related rates, implicit differentiation, parametric equations, Riemann sums, indefinite and definite integrals, techniques of integration, applications of integration, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus and numerical approximations to definite integrals.
Prerequisites: This course requires a solid understanding of pre-calculus and trigonometry and is ideal for students who have demonstrated an aptitude for mathematics. Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry is a prerequisite and should immediately precede taking AP Calculus AB.
